Age of Learning was founded in 2007 by Doug Dohring with a focus on building digital learning products for young children, and its flagship product, ABCmouse.com Early Learning Academy, launched in 2010 as a comprehensive online curriculum covering reading, math, science, social studies, art, and music for children roughly ages two through eight. The platform is built around a structured, game-like curriculum path rather than a loose collection of educational games, with the goal of giving parents a research-informed, sequenced learning experience they can trust as a supplement to, or substitute for, other early-childhood learning resources. Over time, Age of Learning expanded its portfolio beyond ABCmouse to include additional products such as Adventure Academy, aimed at slightly older elementary-age children, and ReadingIQ, a children's digital library and literacy platform, alongside curriculum and assessment products aimed at schools and educators rather than only direct-to-consumer families. The company has marketed heavily through direct-to-consumer advertising, building ABCmouse into a widely used early-learning app in the United States, available across web, tablet, and connected TV platforms, and expanding internationally into other markets. Age of Learning has also pursued research partnerships and internal studies aimed at demonstrating learning outcomes from its products, an important differentiator in a crowded children's edtech market that includes both large platform players like PBS Kids and Khan Academy Kids and numerous smaller educational app developers, and the company has continued to invest in adding AI-driven personalization to adapt its curriculum pacing to individual children's progress.
