Amperity was founded in 2016 by Kabir Shahani, Barry Padgett, Derek Slager, and Demian Bellumio, several of whom had previously worked at data and analytics companies including Big Fish Games and Chartio, based on the recognition that large consumer brands typically have customer information scattered across many disconnected systems, such as e-commerce platforms, point-of-sale systems, loyalty programs, and email marketing tools, with no reliable way to know that a given customer's records across those systems all refer to the same person. This fragmentation makes it hard for brands to build a complete view of any individual customer's relationship with the company, which in turn limits the effectiveness of marketing personalization, customer service, and analytics. Amperity's core technology uses machine learning-based identity resolution to stitch together these fragmented records into a single, unified customer profile per person, even when the underlying data uses inconsistent names, emails, or other identifiers across systems, and then makes that unified data available for use in marketing campaigns, personalization engines, and customer analytics tools. The company has focused heavily on large enterprise retail, hospitality, and consumer brands, including well-known names in apparel, restaurants, and travel, where customer relationships span many channels and touchpoints and where even modest improvements in marketing targeting can have significant revenue impact given the scale of these businesses. Amperity has positioned itself as a first-party data foundation for brands navigating the decline of third-party advertising cookies and increasing consumer privacy regulation, emphasizing that owning and properly unifying first-party customer data is increasingly a competitive necessity. The company has raised substantial venture funding from investors including Tiger Global, Madrona Venture Group, and Penny Jar Capital, reaching a valuation in the billions of dollars.
